Alignment Yoga
Alignment yoga was developed by Scott Anderson based on his knowledge of anatomy and studies with various yoga masters over the years. To release stress, classes begin with a meditation rooted in the "Three Fundamentals:" grounding, relaxing the palate, and full-commitment exhale. This is followed by Pre-Yoga exercise, which are designed to retrain one's body into healthy movement patterns by awakening and strengthening the core muscles of support. Throughout the class, focusing on holding the place between action and resistance, as well as opening areas of one's body without compressing another area helps students cultivate vitality.
Alignment Yoga for Beginners and Beyond
This six week series of classes are appropriate for ALL; beginner to the more experienced yogi alike. Never practiced yoga before? No worries, there is a place for every ability in the classes. Each week different poses, their nuances and meditation techniques will be learned. Leave each class feeling refreshed physically with a calmer state of mind. Visual teaching techniques will be used in this class to better help those with hearing loss and practitioners who are deaf.
Candlelight Meditation: Cultivating Mindfulness
Take a Break from Chaos. Meditation helps us to take a break from the hectic quality of our day. As we move away from the stimuli of the moment we are able to gain more clarity, focus and peace of mind. The key to meditation: it allows us to calm our fears and move into the present moment, and in that moment we can tap into a sense of peace--rather than worrying about the past or obsessing about the future. Stress-rated disorders are on the rise due to our complex and constantly changing world and we are seeing symptoms of fear and anxiety that have skyrocketed in the past decade. These directly impact our quality of life and our health. Come enjoy a time of peace and comfort, a time of quiet reflection amid the rushing of our fast-paced lives.
In this class we use short readings, visualizations, poetry and breathing techniques to help our mindsremain calm and our bodies centered.
New to the experience of meditating? Join us! All levels welcome.

General Alignment-based Yoga
Basic instruction in asanas (yoga postures). Focus on standing and seated poses, simple twists and introduction to shoulder stand and meditation techniques using breath awareness throughout.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle yoga is less strenuous than other forms of Hatha yoga as students do not go has deeply into a pose or hold a position for as long. Release the judgmental mind in this safe, gentle, quiet space. Focus is on de-stressing, breathing, and meeting oneself as you are in the given moment.
Inner Joy Yoga
This low intensity class will focus on proper alignment and linking breath to asanas (postures). Uncover your strength and flexibility as you cultivate a grounded presence and meditative awareness.
Monday Mid-Day Meditation
De-clutter your mind as you kick off the week with this half hour meditation. Focus is on relaxation, guided imagery, and breathing.
QiGong
The QiGong class is structured similarly to the T'ai Chi classes, each beginning and ending with warm up or cool down stretches and other forms of QiGong. The majority of class time will be spent on learning the movements of the Wild Goose QiGong short form, as taught by Master Hong-Chao Zhang of the Chinese Gong Fu Institute in Chicago.
Qigong has similar movements to T'ai Chi, but also incorporates visualization with breath, standing in one place, not moving back and forth as in the 12 Movement and up T'ai Chi forms. This form takes 3 months to learn, approximately. Everyone learns at a different pace and if you have not done any T'ai Chi, Dance or Yoga, it may take you longer to integrate the movements. There are some moves that require some flexibility and body strength, which we will be working on developing in class with the warm up and cool down exercises. As in a T'ai chi classes, wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and either go barefoot or wear smooth bottomed shoes. Only indoor shoes are allowed in class.
For more information on T'ai Chi or QiGong, visit Patty Penner's website www.RainbowWomanReiki.com and watch a video of the 24 movement Yang Style T'ai Chi Chuan form to see exactly what style of T'ai Chi Patty teaches. There are a lot of links to other websites with lots of information about these two amazing forms of ancient Chinese Medicine.
